Wildlife Biology 250
Magazine Article
Due date: Friday, 26 April
The purpose of this assignment is two-fold: to read a classic work in the field of ecology, and to practice popular writing skills.
Read “A Sand County Almanac” by Aldo Leopold. Prepare an article (3-4 full pages-no less!, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12 point font) for the magazine “Tennessee Wildlife” in which you discuss the relevancy of the book in Tennessee today. Your article should exhibit original and critical thinking, and draw from your personal experiences. Remember who your audience is (sportsmen); your article should bring the complexity of the reading to a level that can be understood and appreciated by the average layman; however, your work should have greater depth than to compliment Leopold and/or to declare that his main point is that we are impacting the environment. Do not be repetitive.
Have a friend or family member vigorously review and edit a draft of your article at least 1 week before the due date above. Turn in both the edited draft with the name of the editor, and your final paper. Grade will be based on spelling and grammar, clarity and conciseness, logical and linear flow, and identification and expression of key points.
