Architecture History Essay question: How can the urban layout of a city represent various political power and regimes? How does political power shape city planning? In the essay refer to the example of the city New Delhi (capital of India 1931, before New Delhi became the capital, Calcutta was the capital).
You should write about the reasons behind the founding of the cities and the urban form it took. New Delhi had the desire to establish rights over a territory. The city was founded by the British outside Great Britain, so based on this influence it took its city shape. New Delhi focuses on multiple areas that are expanding, it grid layout is polycentric. Sources should only be from books and scholar articles.
