INSTRUCTIONS
1. Why would the People’s Republic of China, a young communist country, try to woo Japan, a foe that incurred so much pain? In other words, what were the goals Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai tried to achieve through such a charm offensive? How did they conquer domestic obstacles as they warmed up to Japan?
2. Please go back to the three sources of soft power and think about this question: as China was trying to woo Japan, which source(s) were its strengths? Which source(s) were its weakness?
3. To what extent is the Chinese grievance that China’s voice has been marginalized by the West is legitimate (that is, western paranoia and prejudice are to blame)? And to what extent is this Chinese resentment manufactured/manipulated by its own government? You need to read the concluding chapter and make your own assessment.
Use APA format, double spaced and 300 words count for each question.
