Paper Description
You will need to write a 4-page paper on a policy bill (no Assembly or Senate Resolutions) being considered by the California State Legislature in the 2017-2018 Legislative session. This project will require you to do research on a particular policy area. Your paper should cover the following:
- Identify the problem that the bill is trying to fix and clearly state what the bill does (suggested length: 1-2 paragraphs).
- Provide background on the core issue – this will require background library research (suggested length: 2- 3 paragraphs);
- Provide background on the main (one) “author” of the bill (1-2 paragraphs);
- Identify who is opposed to the bill and why; identify who supports the bill and why; give background on the “sponsor” of the bill (if there is one) (suggested length: 2-3 paragraphs);
- Describe where the bill is in the process (suggested length: 1 paragraph); and
- Give your opinion of the bill (support or oppose and why) and link it to what you learned in class (suggested length: 2 paragraphs).

- Double spaced
- 12 inch font
- Number the pages (lower right hand side)
- 1 inch top, bottom, left and right margins
- MLA format for citations
- Bibliography page. You must use at least 5 sources. This page will not be included in the page count.
Grading
Your grade will be based on the content of your paper per the 6 listed sections above, in addition to grammar/spelling/format.
