IT Takes a Team!
To develop high-performing teams, a leader must first understand disciplines other than his or her own. In this assignemet you will examine and public health teams and the roles and responsibilities of interprofessional primary care team members.
A multidisciplinary approach to address patient, family, and community needs requires mutual respect and understanding among various health care professionals. In a multidisciplinary team, each discipline contributes independently to a patient’s care or to a new policy analysis or formulation. In an interprofessional team, members work closely together and communicate frequently to optimize outcomes for the individual, family, or community. This type of team is organized around a common set of problems and meets frequently to consult (American Public Health Association, n.d.).
Defining the terms multidisciplinary and interprofessional, and then discuss your experiences in health care or public health teams. Give an example of a successful team and an unsuccessful team if possible. Analyze whether each team was multidisciplinary or interprofessional.
