Evaluating theories is an important aspect of policymaking. Public management often involves policymaking through practical and applied organizational operations. While theory is important in public management, having an applied approach sometimes helps test the validity of specific theories. Therefore, evaluating public management theories is an essential element of leadership in the public sector.

As a manager and policymaker in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, prepare a written assessment of a management theory and illustrate your understanding of this theory by outlining its key components, including purpose, contributions, and effectiveness. Your assignment should include the following:

  • Define the theory and explain its purpose in public management.
  • Critique the effectiveness of the theory in daily operations.
  • Determine potential challenges associated with this theory and provide examples to support your findings.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.
