How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade?
In order to get a good grade, you will need to demonstrate a good level of understanding of the addiction and dependency issue you have chosen. It is important that your views are demonstrated within an understanding of theoretical approaches to the subject matter – you must avoid making generalizations and assumptions based on subjective perspectives; the ethos of the unit is to enhance the anti-oppressive narratives of the debate. Having analyzed the complex issues: Demonstrate that you have understood the arguments that shape the debate on dependency. Apply the discussed theoretical models of dependency and the impact upon policies. Use reliable, verifiable sources of information from which to cite and inform your writing. Make sure that your writing has a coherent argument leading to a clear conclusion. You must use accurate terms and definitions for the issues that you address. You must give a clear definition of the issue that you have chosen – and offer a clear rationale for the country chosen with which to compare.
How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?
Over the duration of the semester, several addiction and dependency issues will be discussed. These addictions have narratives attached to them based within a variety of theories. As a consequence, countries have a varying number of approaches to tackling these issues. In the lecture and seminar material, the approaches shaped in policies and laws will also be addressed. The assignment asks that you look at an approach to an addiction / dependency issue based within the UK and compare it with another country. NB – the UK is also devolved in many aspects – for example Scotland is able to exercise its own approaches to certain health related issues – therefore you can compare England to Scotland. You can also compare UK wide or devolved Govt approaches to that of other countries.
